Product Details
Honing Steel for exceptional honing of your knives. Even high-quality knives, such as those made by WÜSTHOF, gradually dull due to use: to compensate, a honing steel should be used regularly. A few strokes of both sides of the knife over the honing steel will help you to maintain the sharpness of a good blade. We recommend using a Diamond Steel or a Ceramic Steel to restore the sharpness of particularly blunt knives.

|---|---|---|
| Material | Premium forged steel engineered for lasting strength and corrosion resistance. | Often stamped or made from standard steel blends that may sacrifice durability or rust resistance. |
| Sharpness | 20% sharper than standard knives, thanks to laser-guided PEtec technology. | Factory-sharpened blades that start strong but dull faster and lack precision honing. |
| Craftsmanship | Hand-finished in Solingen, Germany with 200+ years of expertise and precision in every detail. | Mass-produced or partially outsourced craftsmanship that lacks the same heritage and consistency. |
| Corrosion Resistance | Exceptional rust resistance for a blade that stays beautiful for decades. | Prone to staining or rust if not carefully maintained—especially with frequent kitchen use. |
| Edge Retention | Stays sharper twice as long as ordinary knives, reducing the need to re-sharpen. | Edges wear faster over time, requiring more frequent sharpening and touch-ups. |

Honed In…
"The 12” steel is very HD construction and heavy, causing it to be a bit awkward when honing smaller length blades. Love the brand! Love the quality."
Ikon set
"Perfect steel."
WÜSTHOF 12” Oval Sharpening Steel
"A bit disappointed with this one. Had my last one for over 15 years and it worked great on all our Wustoff knives until it just plain wore out. This one just doesn’t seem to work as well. Even when I run the blade over it 15-20 times it just doesn’t seem to get that blade as sharp as I’d come to expect. Don’t know if these steels are made differently or maybe it’s just me, but I can no longer obtain that super sharp edge that I’ve been accustomed to for the last 40+ years."
Falls apart
"My Wusthof honing steel keeps separating and falling apart. Cheap craftsmanship for the money."

"Perfectly balanced and works like a charm"
12” honing steel
"This honing steel is exactly what I needed to keep my WUSTHOF knives sharp and straight. It is big and heavy but I think that also makes me feel more in control with it. I use it before every use and my blades are sharp as ever!"
